Ten Scientific Presentations Related to ZOLL Technologies Scheduled at AHA and ReSS       

November 7, 2018—CHELMSFORD, MASS.—ZOLL® Medical Corporation, an Asahi Kasei Group Company that manufactures medical devices and related software solutions, announced today its expanded and fully integrated portfolio of resuscitation and acute critical care technologies will be on display during the American Heart Association (AHA) 2018 Annual Conference in Booth 838, November 10-12, at McCormick Place in Chicago. ZOLL technology will also be on exhibit at the Resuscitation Science Symposium (ReSS) in Booth 9 November 10-11 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago.

ZOLL products on display during AHA include ZOLL AEDs (the new ZOLL AED 3® BLS, the AED Plus®, and the AED Pro®), the R Series® monitor/defibrillator, the LifeVest® wearable cardioverter defibrillator, the Hospital Wearable Defibrillator, ZOLL’s Thermogard XP® (TGXP) intravascular temperature management system, and for critical care transport—the X Series® monitor/defibrillator, the AutoPulse® Resuscitation System, and the Z Vent transport ventilator.

Technology for Achieving AHA Guidelines

ZOLL’s technology is uniquely capable of helping customers achieve the recommendations in the 2015 American Heart Association Guidelines. Increasing the quality of CPR has been an ongoing commitment for ZOLL since 2002, when it became the first manufacturer to introduce real-time CPR feedback on an AED. Today all ZOLL defibrillators feature Real CPR Help® audio and visual feedback on the depth and rate of chest compressions. On the R Series and X Series monitor/defibrillators, Real CPR Help also indicates whether compressions are being fully released and how long the patient has been without CPR. All of this information is clearly displayed on the CPR Dashboard. Real CPR Help is the only CPR-feedback technology that, in combination with training, has been shown to impact survival to discharge, as demonstrated in published research.1,2

Commitment to High-quality CPR

ZOLL’s commitment to high-quality CPR is also evident in the company’s suite of tools for optimal resuscitation response for all patients. ZOLL’s proprietary See-Thru CPR® technology helps clinicians to minimize the duration of pauses in CPR by enabling them to see an organized, underlying rhythm. Clinicians can also benefit from ZOLL’s support and feedback for pediatric resuscitations. One-of-a-kind pediatric solutions combine Real CPR Help and pediatric-specific OneStep electrodes to address the unique needs of pediatric patients. Additionally, an exclusive ResQPOD ITD enhances circulation during basic or advanced life support CPR by regulating pressures in the chest to improve blood flow to vital organs. When combined with high-quality CPR, the ResQPOD has been shown in clinical studies to increase survival by 25% or more.3 Also, available on the R Series and X Series is end-tidal CO2 monitoring that provides valuable information during a resuscitation event.

Unmatched Pediatric Capabilities

ZOLL’s OneStep pediatric CPR electrodes are used in a majority of the top 25 US News and World Report pediatric cardiology hospitals. These are the only electrodes on the market with built-in CPR sensors that display the depth and rate of chest compressions during CPR on young children up to 8 years of age. These one-of-a-kind electrodes provide optimal support for pediatric resuscitation when paired with the ZOLL R Series or X Series. The OneStep pediatric CPR electrodes can be used for monitoring, pacing, and defibrillation, as well as displaying CPR quality on the R Series and X Series CPR Dashboard.

Wearable Defibrillators

A recent addition to the ZOLL portfolio is the Hospital Wearable Defibrillator (HWD). The ZOLL HWD is specifically designed to continuously protect patients at risk of ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation (VT/VF) during their hospital stay. For a patient experiencing VT/VF, each minute that defibrillation is delayed increases the likelihood of dying or the likelihood of surviving with complications.4

Also unique to ZOLL is the LifeVest wearable cardioverter defibrillator (WCD), which is worn by patients at risk for sudden cardiac death (SCD). The LifeVest WCD continuously monitors the patient’s heart and, if a life-threatening rapid heart rhythm is detected, the device delivers a treatment shock to restore normal heart rhythm. The 2017 American Heart Association (AHA)/American College of Cardiology (ACC)/Heart Rhythm Society (HRS) and 2015 European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Guidelines for Management of Patients with Ventricular Arrhythmias and the Prevention of Sudden Cardiac Death include recommended use of the WCD for a wide range of patients, including those who have a reduced heart function following a heart attack or new diagnosis of heart failure.5,6

Additional ZOLL products on display include:

  • New to the ZOLL portfolio is the Z Vent transport ventilator for intra and inter-hospital transport. It weighs just 9.7 lbs. (4.4 kg.), has an internal compressor that consumes less than half the oxygen of other transport ventilators,7 and comes with a 10-hour battery to ensure continued care during long transports. With ZOLL’s unique Smart Help™ technology, Z Vent removes the complexity associated with many portable ventilators, as Smart Help provides on-screen prompts to quickly guide staff through alarm resolution.
  • ZOLL’s Thermogard XP (TGXP) intravascular temperature management system provides health care professionals with the power and control needed to rapidly, safely, and accurately manage the core body temperature of critically ill or surgical patients with warming and cooling applications. It offers superior clinical efficiency in reaching and maintaining target temperature 100% of the time,8-13 while decreasing demands on nursing staff and reducing nursing workload by 74%.14
  • The AutoPulse Resuscitation System, ZOLL’s automated CPR device, allows for high-quality Resuscitation on the Move™ even when moving patients in tight quarters, such as down staircases or in moving ambulances. In the hospital, AutoPulse performs high-quality CPR when manual CPR is difficult to achieve, such as in the cath lab and during nights and weekends when hospitals are more likely to be short staffed.
  • ZOLL’s RescueNet® CaseReview provides instant and accurate critical code data with the push of a button from the R Series, X Series or the ZOLL AED 3 BLS once a code is over to help facilitate hot debriefs of the resuscitation event.

Scientific Assembly Presentations

Ten scientific presentations related to ZOLL products and technology are scheduled to be presented during AHA and ReSS. An education grant from ZOLL helps to underwrite the Resuscitation Science Symposium (ReSS), an international forum for scientists and care providers to discuss recent advances related to treating cardiopulmonary arrest and life-threatening traumatic injury.
