ELE TAXIS IN WARSAW INNOVATE, PROVIDE PUBLIC ACCESS TO AEDs

August 29, 2012—CHELMSFORD, MASS.—ZOLL Medical Corporation, a manufacturer of resuscitation devices and related software solutions, announced today that Ele Taxi Ltd. in Warsaw, Poland is the first taxi company in Poland to equip its taxis with ZOLL AED Plus® automated external defibrillators, which guide rescuers through the complete Chain of Survival in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest.

Polish taxi driver, one of two hundred trained to use ZOLL AED Plus for public access.

“Through a collaboration with Warsaw’s public EMS system, 150 to 200 of the Ele Taxi fleet’s 1200 cars will be equipped with the AEDs so that drivers can be quickly dispatched to assist cardiac arrest victims,” said Artur Oporski, General Director. “We trained many of our drivers ahead of last month’s EURO 2012 football championship, which Poland co-hosted.

“Shortly after installing the first 30 ZOLL AEDs, one of our drivers saved the life of a man who collapsed on the sidewalk. By the time EMS arrived he had regained consciousness,” he added.

With its real-time audio and visual feedback, the AED Plus with Real CPR Help® prompts the drivers to perform effective CPR with rapid compressions to an optimal depth of at least 5 cm (about 2”) in accordance with European Resuscitation Council and American Heart Association guidelines.

The AED Plus also determines whether the victim requires a shock and guides the rescuer through the process.

“We chose the AED Plus for its elegant simplicity,” Mr. Oporski said. “It only requires the driver to place a single pad on the victim, unlike other AEDs which require placing two electrodes. It saves time. And the AED Plus is more cost effective: the pad has the longest shelf life of any defibrillator electrode – five years.”

Ele taxis equipped with an AED Plus will display a prominent sticker in the rear window.

“Ele Taxi and EMS service are to be commended for their innovative plan to protect Warsaw residents and visitors stricken by cardiac arrest, which requires the fast and effective action made possible by the AED Plus,” said ZOLL President Jonathan Rennert.

About the AED Plus

The ZOLL AED Plus is the first and only full-rescue AED that provides Real CPR Help® for depth and rate of chest compressions during CPR. ZOLL’s enhanced Real CPR Help technology is fully compliant with the 2010 American Heart Association Guidelines for deeper CPR chest compressions to help responders provide high-quality CPR. The AED Plus guides rescuers through the complete Chain of Survival, helping all sudden cardiac arrest victims, not just those who need a shock.
