Job Summary:

Assists in team, group, or department activities and functions in the development of new or revised products. Is expert in the use of general purpose laboratory equipment, methods, and practices utilized in the development of products. Is familiar with personal computers and standard office software applications. Has independent outside vendor and contractor contact.  Works under engineering direction. Generally no direct reports. May coordinate the time of 1-3 indirect departmental reports such as other technicians. Works independently under some engineering supervision on a weekly basis.

Essential Functions:

  • Design protocols to address requirements
  • Writes test protocols and reports
  • Reviews others' test reports and provides feedback
  • Presents test reports and design improvements to R&D project team members
  • Provides guidance to peers
  • Liaison with manufacturing on device assembly process
  • Interfaces with vendors and outside test Jabs
  • Given incomplete specifications concerning R&D fixtures that may be unique from past experiences, completes specifications , documents and builds assembly
  • Minimal supervision
  • Acts as mentor to other lab personnel
  • Work may be done without established procedures
  • Act as the resident expert for a discipline-specific advanced tools or lab technique
  • Able to setup complex systems test configurations
  • Maintains organized notebook of meetings, notes and plans (not lab notebook)
  • Promote and foster an environment in a multi-disciplines setting that welcomes creative ideas and solutions
  • Works successfully within a team atmosphere
  • Lead team in successful interactions

Skill Requirements:

  • Understanding of a breadth of theoretical principles
  • Proven ability to apply a broad scope of theoretical principles
  • Considerable practical knowledge of specific job
  • Extensive practical knowledge of basic and advanced tasks associated with job focus
  • Moderate basic practical knowledge of2-4 adjacencies
  • Ability to develop an approach to troubleshooting complex circuits, mechanical assemblies, accessories and develop /propose solutions. This could include limited software (SLQTP)
  • Ability to train less experienced colleagues on advanced lab tools
  • Ability to train manufacturing personnel on design and assembly of complete device and service personnel on design and maintenance of device
  • Capable of scheduling small projects including prioritization of their individual tasks
  • Capable of moderate design analysis across multiple disciplines (system level)
  • With minimal supervision, has the ability to deal with and resolve  unusual  multiple  complex  problems  simultaneously and  willing to be challenged and take risks
  • Positive attitude and willingness to take on the most difficult challenges and to do what is necessary to advance corporate goals
  • Ability to work effectively in teams and engage other in technical discussions
  • Ability to accept criticism of their work deliverables
  • Identify and work toward team objectives

    Education Requirements:

  • Tech Certificate and 6 years’ experience OR
  • Associate’s Degree and 3 years’ experience
