Job Summary:

Perform R&D lab technician duties that include testing equipment, building prototype assemblies, building test equipment, and performing associated administrative duties such as lab cleanup and maintenance. Requires only moderate oversight in completing tasks.

Essential Functions:

  • Builds R&D test fixtures per specifications provided, providing design assistance and feedback

  • With minimal supervision, executes test protocols to completion, which includes coordinating the manufacturing and testing of the samples, reviewing the test procedures and data for accuracy and completeness, summarizing and analyzing the data or reviewing summaries for completeness, and informing the appropriate project leader of any questions or unexpected results that arise during testing

  • Provides results according to prescribed documentation procedures, providing test protocol design assistance and feedback

  • Write protocols and final reports for verifications and validations

  • Prepare other documentation required for product development of products or modifications to products, such as Design Control documents, SOP’s, SIP’s, etc.

  • Presents test report and design improvements to R&D project team members

  • Interfaces with vendors and manufacturing on assembly process

  • Sources parts and supplies

  • With engineering direction, able to troubleshoot simple circuits, mechanical assemblies, software functionality (SLQTP) or accessories

  • No instructions needed on routine work and general instructions on new lines of work or special assignments

  • Contributes to lab organization. Maintain organization of R&D lab, including equipment, materials, test samples and test documentation

  • Continually work to improve quality and efficiency of test methods

Skill Requirements:

  • Understanding of a breadth of theoretical principles

  • Considerable practical knowledge of basic tasks associated with job focus

  • Can read and follow semi-complex specifications, procedures, test protocols, and engineering drawings

  • Can write basic test protocols and reports using guidance documentation or templates

  • Ability to use basic and complex tools in area

  • Ability to learn basics of more advanced tools after instruction

  • Capable of following multiple tasks and provide progress updates

  • With limited supervision, has the capacity to visualize new solutions to problems

  • Welcomes creative ideas and solutions

  • Positive attitude and willingness to take on difficult challenges and to do what is necessary to advance corporate goals

  • Good communication and teamwork skills

  • Ability to contribute to team objectives

Required/ Preferred Education and Experience:

  • HS Diploma and 3 years experience OR

  • Technical Certificate and 0 years’ experience
