Fitness Fanatic Thanks Gym Staff for Saving His Life

 AED Plus with padz

27 February 2015–Fitness fanatic Peter Pooley recently thanked two gym instructors who saved his life using an AED Plus® defibrillator when he collapsed at The Parks Leisure Centre in North Shields.

Peter had undergone a heart bypass many years ago but is very active and was working out on the cross-trainer when he suddenly collapsed to the floor, knocking his head. The two gym instructors, Richard Lazonby and Geoff Shippen, leapt into action to attend to Peter. When they realised he had gone into cardiac arrest, they quickly retrieved the AED Plus and used it to shock him.

Peter was then taken by ambulance to Newcastle Freeman Hospital, where he underwent an emergency operation—within just 27 minutes of his collapse.

Thankfully, Peter is now recovering at home and is extremely grateful to his two rescuers. He said, “I owe my life to them. Their training, expertise, and quick reactions saved my life.”
