RescueNet Code Review - End of Service Life

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Code Review?

Launched in 2004, RescueNet® Code Review is free, downloadable software that is compatible with multiple ZOLL® defibrillators (R Series®, X Series®, E Series®, M Series®, Propaq®, Propaq MD®, AED Pro®, and AED Plus®). Once installed, it allows users to review all clinical defibrillator information for quality review and analysis following an SCA event to deliver the complete picture of the event. RescueNet Code Review provides a report of ECG, vital sign data, and CPR rate and depth of compressions for a complete review of the rescue.

After the launch of RescueNet CaseReview in 2011, the transition to this new software is the next logical step in the evolution and optimization in the way users manage and analyze data collected from ZOLL defibrillators.

Why are Code Review, CaseReview and CodeNet?

People tend to confuse Code Review, CaseReview, and CodeNet. Let's review the differences briefly.

RescueNet Code Review: The first generation of ZOLL software to review case-related data, Code Review requires to be installed in your computer or terminal. Case files are uploaded via USB or Bluetooth (no Wi-Fi transmission of data), and it has limited analysis capacity. This software can be used if you have it installed in your computer, but eventually it will become obsolete that will may not be compatible with your PC updates.

RescueNet CaseReview: The next generation of ZOLL's case analysis software, it allows users to rapidly review CPR performance metrics, manage, analyze, and trend code data to improve CPR accuracy and simplify debriefing. Data files from ZOLL defibrillators can be sent to RescueNet CaseReview using a secure Wi-Fi network. RescueNet CaseReview is subscription-based software, meaning users need to pay a fee to get CaseReview installed and working for the subscribed period. The subscription gives users access to software updates that are made available automatically after their launch, eliminating issues related to obsolescence. This is the option we encourage customers to adopt.

RescueNet CodeNet: This software solution brings together accurate code documentation with robust data analysis to make actionable code response improvements. RescueNet CodeNet combines two essential tools for event debriefing and data documentation (RescueNet CaseReview and RescueNet CodeWriter) into a single interoperable platform.

How is CaseReview different from Code Review?

CaseReview represents a new generation of the product, with additional functionalities that improve the user experience. Among the most relevant differences is that, with CaseReview, users can automatically set up defibs to send cases to a folder via Wi-Fi. They can then open any of these files with Code Review.

CaseReview is online software that obtains the data from the defibrillators via Wi-Fi, eliminating the need to export data to a memory stick to later load it into software resident on a computer. This substantially optimizes the workflow reducing the steps for data analysis. But this is just one of many differences. The table presented below compares the two software applications:

What does End of Support mean?

End of Service Life/End of Support (EOSL) refers to the date on which ZOLL no longer provides customer technical support. You can still use the software installed on your computers, but no additional software updates or support will be available.

How is End of Support Life different from End of Life?

End of Life or End of Sale (EOL/EOS) is the term used to indicate the date a manufacturer stops producing or selling a product (device or software). Users still will have access to technical and customer service support but can no longer buy the product.

End of Service Life/End of Support (EOSL) refers to the date the manufacturer stops providing customer or technical support. New customers are adopting CaseReview/ EventSummary as alternative solutions. ZOLL is at the point that can put the Code Review on EOSL.

Why is ZOLL putting this product to End of Support Life?

RescueNet CaseReview allows more efficient management of the data generated during an event and superior data flow from the defibrillator to the analysis tool compared to Code Review. However, the existence of a free-of-charge version with comparable features might be cannibalizing some opportunities of selling CaseReview to accounts interested in an integrated solution (defibs + RescueNet CodeNet).

Bringing Code Review to the End of Support might facilitate a more rapid expansion of RescueNet CaseReview.

How will this EOSL affect me as a user?

As mentioned before, users will still have access to Code Review that is already installed on their computers and can use it as they currently do. They will continue to receive customer and technical support from ZOLL until the end of Calendar 2022, but. not receive any further software updates or development support. They will not have access to further software updates or support from ZOLL. At some point an Window’s operating system update, may create a compatibility issue and render Code Review unusable, however we do not know if/when that will occur.

What alternatives do I have?

You have the option to continue using Code Review as you currently do, but there will not be further updates or support from ZOLL after December 2022. Alternatively, you can opt to migrate to CaseReview, in which case deployment steps and subscription will be required. If you would like to learn more about migrating to CaseReview, please contact your local ZOLL Representative.

Will this EOSL affect other areas using Code Review such as EMS services, public access devices or military?

Fire and EMS users can opt to migrate RescueNet CaseReview as an alternative to Code Review. Public safety and alternate care segments will have access to review ZOLL AED clinical data using RescueNet EventSummary.

Why is RescueNet EventSummary not available for hospital customers?

RescueNet EventSummary is an application designed for the public safety market, the program does not allow advanced case editing, analysis, or trending as CaseReview does. RescueNet EventSummary does not support case files from the ZOLL ALS devices (R Series, X Series).
