Position Summary:

Works under the supervision of hardware design engineers. Analyze and test devices, components, and subassemblies used in both legacy and new products.   Lead efforts for supporting design experiments, debugging, and testing of electrical hardware features implemented in the LifeVest system under the supervision of hardware design engineers.  Additional responsibilities include test fixture design and assembly, root cause analysis, and software testing. Performs other duties as assigned by Management. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead Technician resource working with an engineering team on research, development, and sustaining projects.
  • Analyze and test devices, components, and subassemblies used in new and legacy product designs. 
  • Perform complex and non-routine test procedures during product development cycles. 
  • Perform new product verification and validation testing. 
  • Assist in design research experiments.
  • Assemble test fixtures and devices which may consist of small components and high density circuit boards.
  • Design and develop automated verification test fixtures.
  • Perform root cause analysis on complex product failure modes.
  • Support engineering and other departments on sustaining activities.
  • Develop and debug test fixture hardware and software. 
  • Works independently with minimal supervision.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Supervisory Responsibilities: No direct reports, however general guidance and technical mentoring of junior engineers and technicians may be required.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s degree in an electrical engineering discipline or equivalent.
  • 15+ years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in electrical hardware troubleshooting and testing.
  • Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • This position may be available at different career levels depending on experience, education, etc.

Preferred Experience:

  • Proficient in the use of general engineering lab equipment including soldering stations, oscilloscopes, waveform generators, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, multi meters, power supplies, etc.
  • Proficient in soldering small surface mount components.
  • Technical experience or training in at least a subset of the following areas:
    • High precision analog
    • EMC / EMI
    • High voltage / high current defibrillation circuitry
    • Digital
    • On-board IC-based power supplies
    • Sensors
    • Printed circuit boards
    • Software and scripting languages
    • Wireless communication
    • Firmware
    • Hardware / Software integration

Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems and make appropriate judgment calls to insure the correct outcome.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
