As a Senior Software Engineer at Zoll, you will be responsible for architecting software solutions to meet our customers needs in the fields of cardiac resuscitation and therapeutic hypothermia. You will help shape the software platform architecture for our products and contribute to technologies and tools to maximize performance, efficiency and reuse.

This role requires an energetic and motivated individual with strong communication, and technical skills who works well in a multi-disciplinary team.


Essential Functions:

    • Design and develop electro-mechanical medical device software from early stage concept and prototypes to commercial release.
    • Develop embedded software for real-time operation in high reliability and high-performance medical and IoT applications.
    • Understand customer and system requirements and translate into software requirements
    • Participate in software project planning and execution using both Agile and waterfall methodologies
    • Work closely with cross-functional groups to define product software requirements.
    • Conduct and document code reviews, unit and module testing.
    • Participate in software technical reviews and phase reviews.
    • Develop all product software in accordance with medical device software design control processes.
    • Develop software design best practices, tools, technologies and templates
    • Support, train, and/or mentor other team members in design best practices
    • Keep current on embedded development tools, technologies and connectivity solutions.


Skill Requirements:

  • Experience with microprocessors, digital systems, and interfacing to general computers
  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, EE or related field
  • 3+ years of embedded C/C++ experience on bare metal, RTOS platforms
  • 3+ years of experience developing SW on embedded linux platform
  • Knowledge and relevant experience designing, developing, and supporting embedded products
  • Knowledge of data structures and inter-process communications
  • Knowledge of multi-threaded development and interrupt servicing
  • Knowledge of networking (e.g. TCP/IP), wireless, and Ethernet protocols
  • Knowledge of communications protocols (e.g. USB, I2C, SPI, UART etc.)
  • Experience with object-oriented analysis and design techniques
  • Proficient at software design methodologies
  • Proficient with both Agile and Waterfall methodologies
  • Proficient with software configuration management tools. Git preferred.
  • Proficient with feature and defect tracking tools. Jira preferred.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Deep working knowledge of computer architecture as it relates to current MCUs, MPUs, DSPs, SoCs combined with the respective programming model that allows for the execution of software
  • Strong best-practices based operational experience with industry tools including but not limited to: compilers, vendor-specific configuration and development environments, unit testing, code coverage and automation tools, linting tools, static and dynamic code analysis tools, and diagnostic and debug tools
  • Knowledge of high level (e.g. TCP/IP, USB) and low level (e.g. serial, SPI, I2C) communications protocol
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work within schedule constraints and clearly communicate design challenges and solution

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience of network and cloud connectivity
  • Direct experience with entire software development life cycle, from concept through maintenance



  • Experience with Git and Jira
  • Experience with CI and DevOps tools
  • Project Management
  • Experience in delivering highly embedded and portable systems in a regulated industry (e.g. Medical Devices, Robotics, Automotive, Aerospace, Pharma)
  • Ability to understand FPGA architecture and design
  • Ability to understand PCB schematics, and having general hardware knowledge to enable bringing up and debugging new PCBs
