Overview

The Mechanical Engineering Manager is responsible for leading and providing guidance to a group of mechanical engineers, with the responsibility for managing both the administrative and technical aspects for his or her group. We are looking for a hands-on, self-starter that has a focus on project timeline. This individual will also be responsible for guiding and training his team to meet future needs within ZOLL. This individual may be required to travel and work overtime from time to time to ensure corporate objectives. This individual needs to maintain the highest standards of engineering quality, professional responsibility, and corporate integrity. This individual will serve on a project team as a lead mechanical engineer under the direction of a project lead and will lead the overall mechanical design from concept to commercial launch. You will need strong leadership and communication skills and ensure that projects are completed per the original schedule. This individual to also support hiring to ensure staffing and technical aspects of each project are met.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of mechanical engineers to design, develop and release medical devices from concept to commercialization
  • Train and mentor mechanical engineers toward the goal of completing projects with excellence, on time and on budget
  • Conduct annual reviews, provide feedback, and career path guidance
  • Assist with developing detailed project plan to achieve overall corporate objectives
  • Manage technical partners/ vendors supporting product development activities
  • Effectively utilize problem solving skills and techniques to identify potential issues, assess their impact, and develop and implement mitigation and resolution plans and activities
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills with all levels of personnel and management
  • Prepare and manage the preparation of required project requirements, documentation and trace matrix
  • Facilitate and coordinate project team meetings and management presentations as required
  • Review, approve, and release drawings, analysis, test plans, and other mechanical engineering documentation.
  • Enforce proper configuration control and document release processes, including oversight of SolidWorks PDM and other mechanical engineering tools
  • Knowledge of applicable engineering industry standards and specifications, to ensure team awareness and compliance
  • Support team members in developing and maintaining engineering budget and schedule estimates

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience leading the mechanical design and development of medical devices
  • 3+ years as a Manager with a team of minimum 3 engineers under your responsibility 
  • Catheter development experience a plus TO Catheter development experience
  • Demonstrated success managing projects of varying complexity within the specified guideline, timeframe, and budget
  • Sense of urgency with a solid commitment to quality
  • Experience writing and releasing test protocols, design verification protocols, and risk management documents
  • Experience designing injection molded parts and mechanisms
  • Experience with sterilization validation a plus
  • Knowledge of related global standards and regulations for mechanical medical devices and risk management
  • Catheter development experience a plus
  • BS degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering (Advanced degree preferred)
  • PMP certification desired
