This individual to support the R&D engineering team with the design, development and testing of engineering prototypes. This includes, but is not limited to, building, testing and evaluating engineering test prototypes. In the event of a device failure, this individual capable of evaluating the failed device and determining the root cause of the failure. This individual is also capable of making recommendations to the development team on how to improve the product design and or improve the process used to manufacture the device. This individual needs to be self-driven, able to individually setup and conduct complex engineering experiments based on released documentation, document the test results from these experiments in a lab notebook, and ensure that the laboratory is kept clean and orderly.


Essential Functions:

  • Work with the engineers to build, test and troubleshoot test prototypes
  • Able to work under a microscope to assemble complex assemblies
  • Document test results in your lab notebook
  • Generate graphs from test data and analyze if the test results meet the requirements per the design specifications
  • Troubleshoot and analyze product failures, identify root cause of these failures, and propose possible design improvements
  • Assist with improving the product design and manufacturing processes used to manufacture the final device
  • Assists with the risk management process to ensure we design safe and effective products
  • Repair and maintenance of electro-mechanical laboratory equipment
  • Work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ensure that the laboratory is kept clean and orderly, conduct 5S cleanings as required



  • Knowledge of bonding techniques for catheters and or plastic parts
  • Assist with trouble shooting and identifying root cause for failed engineering test samples
  • Able to set up and run complex experiments per supervisor direction or released test protocols
  • Able to troubleshoot and repair electro-mechanical laboratory equipment and or identify a vendor to repair or replace
  • Able to develop creative solutions to complex problems, for example improved design of engineering prototypes or improved manufacturing process for device assembly
  • Works well with inside and outside customers and vendors
  • Able to document laboratory testing in your laboratory notebook or released test protocols and reports
  • Follows policies and procedures; keeps training up to date, able to work effectively as part of a team
  • Adapts to changes in the work environment; manages competing demands; changes approach or method to best fit the situation; able to deal with frequent change, delays, and or unexpected events
  • Follows instructions and completes tasks in a timely fashion
  • Meets challenges with resourcefulness, generates suggestions for improving work
  • Demonstrates persistence and overcomes obstacles
  • Able to solder ICs under a microscope (a plus)
  • Ability to generate drawings using Solidworks (a plus)


  • Associates Degree or Certificate in Mechanics or Electronics plus a minimum of five years’ related experience
  • Medical device work experience
  • Experience with commonly used software programs (MS WORD and EXCEL)
  • Experience with catheter assembly and testing (a plus)
  • Machine shop experience – how to operate a mill, lathe, CNC (a plus)
