Position Summary:

Principal Electrical Engineer responsible for a lead role in the design, debug, support, and delivery of electrical hardware features implemented in the LifeVest system.   Additional responsibilities include development and maintenance of design documentation, test execution, and providing the lead technical interface to management and other stakeholders within the organization.           

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Electrical Engineer leading and/or working on a team on research, development, and sustaining projects.
  • Performs electrical design work that may include analog, digital, power, high voltage, and/or wireless circuitry.
  • Designs, fabricates, and evaluates components or circuitry for use in electronic equipment.  
  • Conducts design studies for future generation products.
  • Provides the technical interface for engineering and other departments on sustaining activities.
  • Makes system level electrical design architecture and complex design decisions.
  • Conducts root cause failure analysis on devices.
  • Manages electrical design function of complex projects. 
  • Produces design documentation and executes test procedures.
  • Keeps up-to-date with the latest developments and technical innovations in electrical engineering.
  • Provides mentoring for department staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Required Education and Experience:

  • B.S. degree in an electrical engineering or equivalent and a minimum of 20 years of relevant experience. 
  • An advanced degree in electrical engineering or equivalent is preferred.
  • Experience in electrical hardware design, troubleshooting, and testing.
  • Technical experience or training in at least a subset of the following areas:
    • High precision analog
    • EMC / EMI
    • High voltage / high current defibrillation circuitry
    • Digital
    • On-board IC-based power supplies
    • Sensors
    • Printed circuit boards
    • Wireless communication
    • Firmware
    • Hardware / Software integration
  • Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • This position may be available at different career levels depending on experience, education, etc.

Preferred Experience:

  • Medical devices
  • Handheld or wearable devices
  • Regulatory compliance standards
  • Demonstrated ability to complete product designs from the requirements phase to production.
  • Proficient in the use of general engineering lab equipment including soldering stations, oscilloscopes, waveform generators, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, multimeters, power supplies, etc.

Language Skills:  Ability to read and interpret documents of advanced technical complexity.  Ability to write reports and research findings of a technical nature.  Ability to speak and present effectively one-on-one as well as in small and large groups of professionals including customers, clients and collaborators, both inside and outside the organization.

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to apply advanced mathematics principles while performing essential job duties.

Reasoning Ability:  Advanced reasoning skills required.  Must have the ability to solve complex problems and weigh possible solutions to determine rank options to deliver optimal outcomes.  Ability to assess problems involving several variables in changing situations.
