Job Summary:

As a Senior Software Engineer on our leading-edge advanced development team, the successful candidate will be responsible for prototyping and developing software, including both application and embedded system level code, for new life saving technologies.  The candidate will be responsible for performing work within the advanced development team and collaborating with cross-functional team members in product development, regulatory, quality, and manufacturing.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop software solutions for algorithms and technologies within the Advanced Development organization

  • Translate customer and system requirements into preliminary software requirements.

  • Transition software to product development for commercialization

  • Contribute to software integration activities for integrating new algorithm and/or technology software into device software or hardware subsystems

  • Develop and review software verification test plans and protocols for software developed by the advanced development team

  • Remain current with software engineering trends and technologies through activities such as self-study, webinars, seminars, user group meetings and conferences

  • Identify, recommend, and prototype potential customer solutions

  • Identify technical risks and recommend courses of action

  • Follow standard operating procedures and software engineering best practices including documentation of software architectures and source code

  • Mentor and guides less experienced software engineers

  • Collaborate with team members and contribute to a positive team environment that creates high quality solutions

Skill Requirements:

  • In-depth technical knowledge and experience in embedded systems, computer architectures, software programming (embedded and application), and integration with hardware/electronics

  • Knowledge and experience with programming languages such as C, C++, C#, and Python

  • Demonstrated innovativeness through solutions in software development, algorithms, code development, and/or related engineering problems

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills

  • Positive attitude and affinity for teamwork, logic, innovation, initiative

  • Strong critical thinking with effective problem-solving skills in solving new, unique, and deep technical challenges

  • Ability to foresee challenges and provide alternative solutions and make strong recommendations with engineering-based rationales

  • Ability to prioritize and work on more than one project concurrently

  • Holds self accountable for delivering on commitments

Education Requirements:

  • BS degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering or related engineering/science discipline; MS degree preferred

  • At least 6 years of software design and development experience in a research and development environment (which may include graduate research)

  • Experience working in a regulated environment with design controls, such as medical devices, is a plus but not required
