Position Summary:

The Advisory Mechanical Engineer will lead or contribute to the mechanical design and development of Wearable Cardioverter Defibrillator products from the requirement stage through release to manufacturing. These components include molds, enclosures, interconnecting cables and garments.  Activities include rapid prototyping, analysis, creating design documentation, project schedule development, and support.    This is an upper level position that will work under general direction.            

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide mechanical design, documentation and testing for medical products.
  • Perform engineering analysis (i.e. hand calculations, FEA)
  • Experience with wearable electronics
  • Proficient with injection molding and plastic part design
  • Experience with IP67 rugged enclosures and seals
  • Create engineering and production drawings and documents. GD&T is a plus
  • Conduct and participate in design reviews
  • Technical project management of supplier/contract manufacturers
  • Perform root cause analysis on designs, complaints or manufacturing issues
  • Able to delegate work to other internal or external engineers
  • Author and process change orders.
  • Support design studies for future generation products.
  • A wide degree of creativity and independent judgement is expected.

Educations and/or Experience Required:

  • BSME or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of relevant overall experience, including:
    • 3-5 years of experience designing complex plastic injection molded parts.
    • 3-5 years of professional experience with SolidWorks or similar 3D modeling/drafting software applied to electromechanical assemblies
    • Demonstrated ability to produce high quality 2D specification drawings.
  • Familiarity with best practices of design for molding, machining, rubber molding and sheet metal forming.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in electronics packaging design and manufacturing.

Educations and/or Experience Preferred:

  • MSME or equivalent.
  • 2-3 years of experience working with wearable garments that include electrical conductors/devices.

Language Skills:  Ability to read and interpret documents of advanced technical complexity.  Ability to write reports and research findings of a technical nature.  Ability to speak and present effectively one-on-one as well as in small and large groups of professionals including customers, clients and collaborators, both inside and outside the organization.

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to apply advanced mathematics principles while performing essential job duties.

Reasoning Ability:  Advanced reasoning skills required.  Must have the ability to solve complex problems and weigh possible solutions to determine rank options to deliver optimal outcomes.  Ability to assess problems involving several variables in changing situations.

Computer Skills:  To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
