Job purpose

Advisory Electrical Component Engineer responsible for a lead role in the creation, approval, testing, and maintenance of the electrical and electromechanical components in the LifeVest system.  The Advisory Electrical Component Engineer will take a lead role in the design and/or support design teams in the assembly and testing of components to ensure that they meet quality and performance specifications. Interface with internal and external groups in support of components efforts across product lines as required.  Additional responsibilities include ensuring the maintenance of components documentation and providing the components interface to management and other stakeholders within the organization. This is an experienced engineering position that will work under general direction. 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Electrical Component Engineer leading, working, and/or supporting teams on research, development, and sustaining projects.
  • Component selection for high-reliability assemblies.
  • Manage the selection and specification of parts for assigned programs.
  • Analyze and test devices, components, and subassemblies used in both legacy and new products. 
  • Lead efforts for managing components and product regulatory initiatives such as RoHS or REACH under the supervision of management and/or senior design engineers.
  • Monitor BOM component obsolescence issues and tracking of component life cycles.
  • Provide needed design documentation and support regulatory submittals for component changes.
  • Support root cause failure analysis for production and field component failures.
  • Support component reliability analysis using reliability simulation modeling software.
  • Acquire and compile all needed support documentation for electrical and packaging hardware
  • Supports engineering and other departments on sustaining activities.
  • Conducts root cause failure analysis on devices.
  • Produces design documentation and executes test procedures.
  • Standardize parts for efficiencies where possible.
  • Support cost reduction activates.
  • Works under general direction with an expectation of minimal error rates.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering discipline or equivalent industry experience strongly preferred.
  • 13+ years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in the Medical Device sector or similarly regulated industry such as Nuclear Power, Aerospace, or Mining.
  • Ability to speak fluently with vendors, Development Engineering teams, Component Engineers, Supply-Chain, and Mechanical Engineering teams.
  • Technical experience or training in at least a subset of the following areas:
    • Electronic / Electromechanical components
    • Sensors
    • Printed circuit boards
    • Embedded Systems / Firmware
    • Hardware Supply Chain
    • Supplier Quality
  • Experienced in the use of general engineering lab equipment including soldering stations, oscilloscopes, waveform generators, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, digital multi-meters, power supplies, etc.
