The Circulation division of ZOLL Medical Corporation is focused on "beating heart" therapies for hospitals. Post-cardiac arrest, STEMI heart attack, and severe fever are some of the applications of ZOLL's unique devices. Fully integrated, ZOLL Circulation researches, develops, manufactures, and sells novel technologies includes ZOLL Temperature Management Solutions and TherOx SSO2 Therapy. Temperature Management Solutions empower physicians to "prescribe" a temperature and achieve it. TherOx SSO2 Therapy is the first FDA-approved therapy since the stent 20+ years ago to reduce infarct size in patients with the most severe heart attacks.

Job Summary

Responsible for the design, development, and implementation of analog and digital electronics for new electromechanical medical products in the field of cardiac resuscitation and therapeutic hypothermia.

Essential Functions

  • Represent electrical design in cross functional project teams
  • Lead the development of electronic components for products in accordance with established design controls
  • Participate in the strategic planning of new product development, product improvements and enhancements
  • Work closely with software and mechanical engineers to define system requirements and architecture
  • Hands-on design, test and documentation of electronic components
  • Evolve early feasibility designs into commercial products
  • Work closely with vendors to transfer board designs to production
  • Production support (design for manufacturability, failure analysis, fixture development, etc.)
  • Assist in defining test plans for verification and validation
  • Participate in technical design reviews


Required/Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree Minimum BSEE, related degree or equivalent experience - MSEE or advanced degree desirable preferred and
  • Minimum of 10 years electrical design experience
  • Medical product development, FDA, ISO Standards and patient safety exposure preferred
  • Motor and electromechanical device controllers preferred


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Develop and maintain a good working knowledge of general product development process, current and next generation project activities, and basic technical and clinical fundamentals of the products.
  • Drive the development, documentation, prototyping, testing, validation and implementation of new/improved manufacturing processes.
  • Perform various test functions on devices/equipment and provide meaningful analysis/interpretation of data.
  • Create and release documentation to support production, Assembly Procedures, Lot History Records, Manufacturing Specifications, Work Instructions, Parts Lists, etc. Provide appropriate detail in change request justifications and ensure all necessary reference documentation exists and is audit ready.
  • Support IQ’s, OQ’s and PQ’s when introducing new or changing existing manufacturing equipment.
  • A positive and enthusiastic attitude towards learning, problem solving, and working with a diverse range of functions within the organization.
  • Strong time management skills with an emphasis on managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; applies feedback to improve performance.
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail; monitors own work to ensure quality.
  • Ability to take a systems view of product development
  • Self-directed with a demonstrated ability to plan and prioritize work across multiple projects
  • Strong background in analog and digital design
  • Strong background in medical device development in a small company or start-up environment
  • Preference for experience developing electro-mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge and application of international safety and operating standards for medical devices, e.g. EN 60601, UL2601
  • Knowledge of real-time embedded software development
  • Ability to propose and support new ideas and be pro-active, creative
  • Strong technical and interpersonal management skills
  • High volume product experience

The hourly rate for this position can range from $150 to $200. The actual compensation may vary outside of this range depending on geographic location, work experience, education, and skill level.
