Job purpose

Assist Supervisor of Collections Operations in managing the Cash Applications department.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Oversee and assist in the posting of all incoming electronic and manual payments, denials and offsets to patient accounts.  Provide financial, clerical and administrative service to ensure efficient, timely and accurate payment posting of accounts. 
  • Complete new hire orientations, review of duties and training.  Complete quality review of team members’ work.  Provide continued training, guidance and leadership to team when and where needed.
  • Monitor daily performance and productivity of the team and each member.
  • Assign, direct, and ensure work is performed accurately and efficiently.
  • Act as a liaison between the Cash Applications Department, other departments, clients and vendors to resolve account inquiries and discrepancies.
  • Review and complete or distribute financial requests from other departments.
  • Review and complete adjustments as necessary.
  • Review claims created by the Cash team for proper Territory Assignment.
  • Utilize processes and available tools to analyze trends. Take initiative to seek more efficient processes and procedures.
  • Manage all returned refund checks and returned patient payments timely, meeting federal and state guidelines.
  • Maintain daily cash tracking worksheet with full reconciliation.
  • Perform all month-end closing duties.
  • Assist Supervisor with daily, weekly and/or monthly reporting responsibilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Management.


Qualifications include:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Continued education preferred
  • Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in medical cash posting 
  • Experience working with all payer types to include government and commercial insurance companies
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and navigating Windows software
  • Proficient background in Microsoft Excel
  • Superior communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Multi-tasking with a strong attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines
