Job purpose

The primary function of the Manager, Site Materials is to provide leadership, direction, and accountability for the processes and overall activities of Receiving, Shipping, Inventory Management, Warehousing, Work order kitting, and RMA, personnel.  This includes budgeting, staffing, efficiency, customer service, processes and process improvements, employee development, scheduling, training, interviewing, and all other tasks related to employee management and relations.

Duties and responsibilities

·Create, implement, and maintain a materials management strategy which continuously and quantitatively optimizes materials processes from the standpoint of net value.  Net value optimizes the balance of risk, cost, quality, delivery, speed, and flexibility.  Has full accountability for the establishment and performance of materials processes. 

·Hire, train, lead, develop, and mentor employees and to maintain a high-performance work team.  Maintain high performance standards for employees, with development opportunities for high-performers and performance management/remedial activities for lower-performers. 

  • Must engage, develop relationships with, and support the design engineering community to support new product development by establishing value-appropriate supply chains concurrently during the product development cycle. 
  • Responsible for hands-on leadership of department activities, planning, budgeting, purchasing, resource management, scheduling, training, best practices, quality, and continuous improvement of responsible areas relative to internal targets and external benchmarks.

·Establish departmental goals and objectives that provide world-class materials performance to the organization.  Establish and track meaningful departmental reports / measurements and make continuous improvements.  Analyze reports, measurements and external benchmarks to identify Opportunities for improvement and make appropriate changes.  Proactively lead the materials team to continuously improve processes and procedures.

·Manage and measure all departmental functions such that goals and objectives are consistently achieved.

·Ensure department adherence to company policies, procedures, laws, and ethics codes and ensure that they are communicated and implemented within the department.

  • Direct and coordinate all activities related to Inventory control, Material Handling, Shipping/Receiving, and RMA personnel.   Hire, train, and lead Material handlers, Group leaders, and Supervisors.
  • Proactive participant in coordinating material shortages with the greater operations team to avoid line down and excess inventory situations, and partner with other materials teams to allocate material within the operations department.
  • Ensure accuracy of data in ERP system including location, quantity on hand, value, etc.
  • Ensure all sales orders are appropriately packaged and shipped promptly, accurately and with all necessary documentation.
  • Ensure all materials are received promptly and accurately.
  • Drive and execute cost reduction activities.
  • Minimize total freight costs for the company.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business administration, or materials management; MBA a plus.
  •  Excellent quantitative skills, as well as skilled in planning, communication, and analysis.
  • Experience with implementing Lean, Pull-systems, Kanban, etc.
  • Relevant procurement and/or materials management industry certifications a plus.
  • 5 years of relevant Procurement and/or Materials management experience with a proven record of achievement in leadership.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Project management experience with MS Project a plus.
  • Experienced and competent with ERP systems, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, Agile, etc.

Working conditions

This position is generally performed in a typical office environment that is usually quiet.  Employee is expected to work collaboratively with team members, as well as able to work independently with limited supervision.  Work will require significant computer and telephone work.

Physical requirements

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Supervisory responsibility

Directly supervises the Manufacturing Site Materials department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
