Job purpose
The HL7 FHIR Interface Engineer is responsible for the architecture, design, development, implementation, and support of healthcare data interoperability solutions. Specific tasks include working with different business units, vendors, and business partners to understand health data interchange needs and designing and developing appropriate solutions to receive and deliver health data via healthcare interface.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Leads HL7 interface/data integration architecture and design via interface engine in various HL7 formats.

  • Provides HL7 interface/data integration design, development, maintenance, support, and troubleshooting.

  • Develops, maintains, and supports integration solutions in HL7 data parsing, such as bidirectional real-time HL7 data interfaces and data batch file processing using vendor specified APIs and SOAP and RESTful Web Services.

  • Documents and troubleshoots developed solutions.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.


  • Bachelor’s degree in public health data science or informatics, computer science, computer information systems, or a closely related field.

  • Minimum 3-5 years of healthcare integration and development experiences.

  • Hands-on experience with both current and emerging interoperability standards such as Health Level Seven International (HL7) V2.x, V3, Clinical Document Architecture (CDA), CCD, JSON and Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) required.

  • Experience with SOAP and/or RESTful API connection project required.

  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audience.
