Job purpose

The Soft Goods Technical Project Manager oversees product development and implementation and the adoption and adaptation of project management methodologies for soft

goods projects. This includes both predictive (plan-driven) approaches and adaptive

(iterative/agile) approaches.  This role makes big business impacts and establishes capabilities to

discover, create, and mature ideas into commercial solutions that accelerate growth and boost

business performance throughout the enterprise.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Plans, directs, supervises and controls the execution of all business, technical, fiscal, risk, and administrative functions of the assigned program, project or sub-task
  • Defines and manages scoping, requirements definition, and prioritization activities for small-scale changes and assists with more complex change initiatives
  • Leads the development, monitors, and reports on the progress of all project activity within the project including significant milestones and any conditions which would affect project cost or schedule
  • Manages various innovation projects across the key company pillars; Data Analytics, Biometric feedback loops, and soft goods performance
  • Acts as the company representative with vendors and suppliers during project execution
  • Responsible for managing overall project budget and approving all purchase orders
  • Develops, leads, and implements new processes for soft goods innovation, strategies, and execute on multiple work streams with key stakeholders and cross-functional teams
  • Simultaneously manage multiple projects and tasks while effectively influencing, negotiating, and communicating with internal and external business partners, contractors and vendors

Product Creation Expertise

  • Provides product creation expertise and technical leadership for all soft good projects
  • Has the ability and know-how to technically create, construct, and develop a product from concept to bulk production
  • Supports market and technology insights research to support soft goods innovation strategies
  • Facilitates ideation/brainstorming sessions and collaboration to drive insights and data-to-design product creation
  • Manages the product creation process by supporting the building of the product roadmap, drive cross-functional collaboration, operational ownership, and ensure key gates and dates in the calendar are met by internal and external teams
  • Establish new parameters and processes around testing protocols, user testing, and wear testing
  • Integrate 3D technology and software and can articulate data to inform product design
  • Supports identifying white space opportunities and new key product areas
  • Assists with the creation and implementation of a repeatable soft goods innovation process
  • Develop strong vendor and supplier relationships


  • Exceptional at building relationships between internal and external partners
  • Has the ability to communicate project information, direction, and business objectives concisely and accurately
  • Allocates the work to the respective internal or external teams considering experience, complexity, workload, and organizational efficiency
  • Acts as the proprietor of business analysis, test data, and patient validation
  • Creates presentations to communicate product strategy and execution to both internal and external audiences, as well as present at key product meetings
  • Work directly with internal and/or external product teams to help anticipate the risks of new products and features, as well as support the creation, execution, and tracking of effective mitigation strategies
  • Designs and execute strategies for gaining feedback and buy-in from both internal and external stakeholders
  • Works cross functionally with engineering, testing, production, and design teams
  • Procures and maintains equipment for various work streams
  • Collaborates with internal teams and external vendors to identify and drive new technologies, design iteration, and continuous product improvement and exploration

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Innate sense of curiosity in order to deliver key insights from cross-functional teams, be accomplished at building and managing relationships with both internal and external subject matter experts, relevant stakeholders, and have experience working in or directly with data driven apparel product teams
  • Minimum 10+ years’ experience in an apparel product development related role
  • Possesses a broad soft goods or apparel product development background, preferably with a focus in technical or apparel innovation design experience preferred
  • High-level understanding of the product creation process and strong business orientation
  • Can demonstrate experience in building product, executing, and delivering product to market
  • Strategic knowledge of product creation process, supply chain, and distribution channels
  • Ability to share expertise and mentor others
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, influence, and inspire a team of people to a common goal
  • Proven experience working collaboratively across a wide variety of functions to drive effective outcomes
  • Has an entrepreneurial mindset, with the ability to operate independently and execute flawlessly on both the strategic and operational level
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders
  • Ability to manage multiple work streams and deadlines across projects, reporting to different stakeholders
  • Strong attention to detail, follow-through, and ability to multi-task projects, priorities, schedules, and deliverables
  • Ability to understand projects briefs, digest information, and kick off projects with the relevant teams
  • Solid understanding of project lifecycle and process: able to understand complex project requirements and recognize potential risks and dependencies across resourcing and projects
  • Experience in apparel product development, garment construction or pattern making
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an internal corporate innovation function
  • Experience in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) Systems
  • Experience in CAD systems such as Adobe photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Rhino, and/or SolidWorks
  • Pattern and 3D software such as Optitex, and/or 3D avatar systems
  • Experience working with biometric or physiology data to inform product design
  • PMP certified
  • Experience working with consultants or outside vendor partners
  • Occasional travel as job requires

Working conditions

This position is generally performed in a typical office environment that is usually quiet.  Employee is expected to work collaboratively with team members, as well as able to work independently with limited supervision.  Work requires significant computer work.

Physical requirements

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Supervisory responsibility

This position does not require any supervisory responsibilities
