Job Purpose: The Mechanical Designer contributes to the mechanical design and development of Wearable Cardioverter  Defibrillator products from the concept stage through its full product lifecycle. The Mechanical Designer develops concepts, iterates detailed designs, creates 2D drawings on new and existing products utilizing 3D CAD software under the direction of an engineer or team member.  These components include plastic injection molded parts, enclosures, interconnecting cables and connectors, soft goods and garments.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Uses SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD software
  • Creates plastic injection molded parts
  • Designs complex electro-mechanical assemblies and mechanisms
  • Generates 2D engineering drawing revisions
  • Generates and processes Engineering Change Orders
  • Applies ASME Yl 4.5 and GD& T methods to engineering drawings
  • Participates in design reviews with a high level of scrutiny and engineering rigor
  • Designs  mechanical  enclosures  for  EMI/RF  containment,  environment  constraints,  and IP66/67
  • Applies Human Factors and Usability Practices to mechanical designs
  • Designs solutions for wearable electronics
  • Creates new product concepts with a high level of creativity


Qualifications include:

  • Associate's or Bachelor' s Degree in Engineering or CAD (or related field) or ten (10)+ years of direct work experience without formal education
  • Position typically expects six (6) to ten (10) years of direct/relevant experience
  • Proficient with 3D modeling and software (SolidWorks is preferred)
  • Wearable electronics design experience a plus
  • Textile and soft good design experience for body worn devices a plus
  • Rugged enclosures/seal design for IP66/67 is preferred
  • General experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Ability to adapt to ever-changing work priorities and environment; ability to multitask
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • GD& T Certification a plus
  • PDM experience preferred
  • Occasional travel as job requires

   Working Conditions: This position is generally performed in a typical office environment that is usually quiet. Employee is expected to work collaboratively with team       members, as well as able to work independently with limited supervision.   Work will require significant computer work.


Physical Requirements: 

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.


Supervisory Responsibility: This position does not require any supervisory responsibilities
