Lake District Mountain Rescue Teams Equipped with the ZOLL AutoPulse

27 January, 2015–Thanks to the generosity of the Cumbria Rotary, three mountain rescue teams will have an AutoPulse® Non-invasive Cardiac Support Pump to use in the event visitors to the United Kingdom’s popular Lake District experience sudden cardiac arrest or hypothermia.
Kendal, Penrith, and Wasdale rescue teams each received an AutoPulse to assist them with rescues, which often occur amid challenging conditions in the country’s mountain region.
Richard Warren, chairman of the Lake District Mountain Rescue Association, said “This will make a big difference in our ability to increase a casualty’s chance of survival if someone’s heart stops when severely hypothermic, or in the event of prolonged resuscitation where helicopter evacuation is impossible due to adverse weather conditions.”
The team doctor for Kendal Mountain Rescue Team, Dr Stuart Allen, also commented, “This is a tremendous step forward to help provide a Lake District-wide service provision for managing severely hypothermic patients in our mountain environment.”
There are now seven AutoPulse devices available across the Lake District mountain rescue teams, two of which have already been used to help rescue people in the area.
