ZOLL LIFEVEST WEARABLE DEFIBRILLATOR, ADVANCED RESUSCITATION TECHNOLOGY, AND TEMPERATURE MANAGEMENT SOLUTIONS TO BE SHOWCASED AT HEART RHYTHM 2011

May 4, 2011CHELMSFORD, MASS.– ZOLL Medical Corporation (Nasdaq GS: ZOLL), a manufacturer of medical devices and related software solutions, today announced that it will display its portfolio of clinical resuscitation products including the LifeVest® Wearable Defibrillator in Booth #2426 at Heart Rhythm 2011 May 4-7 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. The LifeVest will be discussed during three scientific/educational presentations during the 32nd Annual Scientific Sessions.

These LifeVest presentations include:

  • Roger G. Carrillo, M.D., University of Miami, will present “Wearable Defibrillator in patients following ICD explants for Sudden Cardiac Death protection (P06-28),” Saturday, May 7, 9:00 a.m., Poster Town, Exhibit Hall.
  • Michael J. Mirro, M.D., Fort Wayne Cardiology, will present “Use of the Wearable Automatic Defibrillator: Outcomes and Compliance (P06-35),” Saturday, May 7, 9:00 a.m., Poster Town, Exhibit Hall.
  •  Dr. Mirro will also present a Rhythm Theater event focused on the LifeVest entitled “SCA Risk Screening and Management: The Role of the Wearable Defibrillator,” Thursday, May 5, 9:30 a.m.,  Rhythm Theater #2 located in the Heart Rhythm 2011 Exhibit Hall.

LifeVest Provides Protection for Patients at Risk of SCA

The LifeVest is worn by patients at risk for sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), providing protection during their changing condition and while permanent SCA risk has not been established.  The LifeVest allows a patient’s physician time to assess his/her long-term arrhythmic risk and make appropriate plans. The LifeVest is lightweight and easy to wear, allowing patients to return to their activities of daily living, while having the peace of mind that they are protected from SCA.  The LifeVest continuously monitors the patient’s heart. If a life-threatening heart rhythm is detected, the device delivers a treatment shock to restore normal heart rhythm.

The LifeVest is used for a wide range of patient conditions or situations, including following a heart attack, before or after bypass surgery or stent placement, as well as for those with cardiomyopathy or congestive heart failure that places them at particular risk.

Also on display from ZOLL’s product portfolio:

  • The R Series® Code-Ready® family of defibrillators for hospitals fully complies with the new American Heart Association Guidelines increased focus on methods to improve CPR quality.  The R Series offers both Real CPR Help® audio and visual feedback for the correct depth and rate of chest compressions, and See-Thru CPR®, a breakthrough technology that filters out CPR artifact from the ECG to reduce CPR interruptions.  Continuous waveform capnography in the R Series determines endotracheal tube placement, tracks resuscitation progress, and provides a clear indication of ROSC.  The R Series defibrillators are designed to extend “Simple, Smart and Ready” defibrillation to every hospital department through advanced, cost-effective solutions for resuscitation.
  • The AutoPulse®, used to provide CPR, is an automated, portable device with an easy-to-use, load-distributing LifeBand® that squeezes the entire chest, improving blood flow to the heart and brain during resuscitation. The AutoPulse delivers high-quality, uninterrupted chest compressions to maintain myocardial and cerebral perfusion even when moving patients, traveling in an ambulance or while undergoing PCI.  Additionally, it offers the benefit of freeing up clinicians to focus on other life-saving interventions.
  • Intravascular Temperature Management (IVTM®) technology offers health care providers the power and control they need to rapidly, safely, and effectively manage the core body temperature of critically ill or surgical patients. The Thermogard XP® delivers accurate, easy-to-use and cost-effective control for both cooling and warming applications.
