IMPORTANCE OF REAL-TIME CPR FEEDBACK PRESENTED AT AHA SCIENTIFIC SESSIONS 2009
ZOLL’s PocketCPR for iPhone Training App Debuts to Over 17,000 Downloads During AHA
November 20, 2009─CHELMSFORD, MASS.–ZOLL Medical Corporation (Nasdaq GS: ZOLL) announced today that the importance of real-time feedback to improve the quality of CPR was presented in two separate poster presentations at the American Heart Association 2009 Scientific Sessions in Orlando, Florida this week. ZOLL’s exclusive real-time feedback technology, Real CPR Help®, is now available in virtually all of the Company’s defibrillators, AEDs and its PocketCPR® device to help improve CPR performance and outcomes in victims of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA).
Charles N. Pozner, M.D., Director of STRATUS Center for Medical Simulation, Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Boston, and David Barash, M.D. Concord Healthcare Strategies, Concord, Mass., et al., presented “Early Marker of Rescuer Fatigue,” citing the key conclusion that the CPR feedback device (PocketCPR) provided objective and reliable measurement of chest compression depth and could be an accurate marker of rescuer fatigue. The handheld CPR feedback device significantly improved the quality of chest compressions provided by experienced hospital providers.
The second poster presentation by Drs. Pozner and Barash et al., entitled “Do We Need to Switch Rescuers Every Two Minutes” concluded that with real-time CPR feedback, hospital providers could perform chest compressions for four minutes without degradation in the depth of compressions, thus allowing for fewer interruptions to switch rescuers.
“We are greatly encouraged that an increasing number of studies are seeing the value of ZOLL’s technology that provides rescuers with prompts and measurements that improve CPR quality,” said Richard A. Packer, President and CEO of ZOLL. “Our key focus has been to help improve outcomes from sudden cardiac arrest, and supporting research from clinicians is an important indication of the strides we are making.”
PocketCPR for iPhone App Training Device Well-Received
ZOLL’s PocketCPR® for iPhone app, which debuted at the ZOLL booth during AHA and was also available from the Apple iTunes App Store, registered more than 17,000 downloads during its first week of availability. People from 57 countries downloaded the CPR Training app to their iPhone or iPod Touch during the dates of the conference.
The app provides an easy-to-use CPR training program and a tool to practice life saving skills. PocketCPR uses Real CPR Help technology identical to the featured in ZOLL defibrillator and AEDS. The app is available now at an introductory price of only $2.99 for a limited time following the AHA conference.
To purchase or view the application, any user of an iPhone or iPod Touch needs to enter the App Store from their device, or via iTunes on their computer, using PocketCPR as the search term. When the PocketCPR for iPhone icons appears, click the Buy App icon to purchase the application.
