ZOLL To Showcase AutoPulse and "Code-Ready" R Series Defibrillator for Hospital at 2008 NTI Conference and Exposition

Four CE Sessions on Resuscitation Offered at Booth # 1305

May 1, 2008CHELMSFORD, Mass. — ZOLL Medical Corporation (Nasdaq GS: ZOLL), a manufacturer of resuscitation devices and related software solutions, today announced that it will display its range of clinical resuscitation products—including the AutoPulse® Non-invasive Cardiac Support Pump and the ZOLL® R Series™ defibrillator—in booth #1305 at the 2008 National Teaching Institute and Critical Care Exposition May 6-8 in Chicago. More than 7,000 acute and critical care nurses are expected to attend the conference.

The AutoPulse Non-invasive Cardiac Support Pump is an automated, portable device with an easy-to-use, load-distributing LifeBand® that squeezes the entire chest, improving blood flow to the heart and brain during sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). The AutoPulse has been shown to improve survival to discharge in a major study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA)*.

The AutoPulse offers a significant advantage over manual CPR because it moves more blood, more consistently, than is possible with human hands. In addition to eliminating rescuer fatigue and interruptions that accompany manual CPR, AutoPulse frees clinicians to perform other lifesaving activities.

R Series: Simple, Smart, Ready

The R Series is a Code-Ready™ device that is simple, smart, and ready to use. It offers a OneStep™ system to simplify and speed up deployment of pacing and defibrillation therapy. It also offers smart tools to help clinicians improve CPR performance, which is important since more than half of in-hospital codes involve non-shockable rhythms and, in such cases, the only treatment is high-quality CPR with minimal interruptions.

The R Series can also verify the condition and expiration date of the electrode set. All of this testing occurs without disconnecting electrodes or paddles, or requiring additional equipment to test shock delivery. The system provides a printed or electronic log to alert hospital personnel of any concerns in advance of a code. A simple green checkmark indicates that the R Series is fully ready for use.

“With its new standard for simplicity and operational readiness, we believe the R Series will improve in-hospital resuscitation efforts,” said Richard A. Packer, President and Chief Executive Officer of ZOLL. “This exclusive technology delivers new milestones in defibrillator performance and reliability when it counts the most—during a cardiac arrest event.”

ZOLL Sponsors Four CE Sessions on Resuscitation

In keeping with the Company’s vision to help improve resuscitation and increase survival rates, ZOLL will offer four 30-minute CE sessions conducted by leading nursing instructors at scheduled times during exhibit hours. Session topics will include “Time Will Tell: Early Defibrillation in the Hospital” by Judy Boehm; “From Paper to PDA: Can it Improve Code Blue Documentation?” by Renata Sampson; “Making CPR Easy: Introducing Change in Practice” by Cynthia Steinbach; and “CPR Quality: What to Measure and Tools to Help” by Maureen Kelpe.

In addition to AutoPulse and the R Series, also on display:

  • CodeNet®, which is the first software system that allows hospital teams to better document, manage, and review cardiac arrest event and resuscitation information. CodeNet brings new improvements and efficiencies in data capture, event time synchronization, and case and aggregate reporting. It is the only system that time stamps logged events and synchronizes these times with defibrillator data, providing clinicians with a complete and accurate timeline of an entire cardiac arrest event.
  • AED Plus® and AED Pro®, both featuring Real CPR Help®, allow clinicians to instantly see and hear how well they are performing the rate and depth of CPR chest compressions.

CPR Challenge

ZOLL invites exhibition attendees to participate in the CPR Challenge using the AED Pro and AED Plus in Booth #1305. Prizes will be awarded to attendees with the highest percentage of in-target compressions (i.e., best rate and depth of chest compressions) that would be effective in helping maintain blood flow to the brain and heart of a cardiac arrest victim.

ZOLL St. Bernard

ZOLL’s popular rescue dog will also be available for photos with attendees. Participants will be able to download the photo from ZOLL’s website on their return home.
