FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ZOLL SPOTLIGHTS RESUSCITATION “FIRSTS” AT 2004 EMS TODAY CONFERENCE AND EXPOSITION

Wednesday, March 03, 2004 – ZOLL Medical Corporation (NASDAQ: ZOLL), a manufacturer of non-invasive cardiac resuscitation devices, will unveil a number of innovative technology “firsts” in its booth (#1011) at the 2004 EMS Today Conference and Exposition, the leading tradeshow for emergency medical personnel, from March 4 through March 6 in Salt Lake City, Utah:

· AutoPulse™ Resuscitation System
Manufactured by ZOLL's strategic partner Revivant Corporation, the AutoPulse is the first non-invasive cardiac assist device that has been shown to provide near-normal blood flow during cardiac arrest in both human and animal studies. The AutoPulse compresses the entire chest and moves much more blood than normal chest compressions. This can help to restore circulation and ultimately get the heart beating again.

According to Captain Jeff Youngsma, a paramedic with the Fremont Fire Department, which is currently evaluating the AutoPulse, “The AutoPulse is as revolutionary as the discovery of cardiac defibrillation. It performs chest compressions better than any firefighter, paramedic, doctor, trauma surgeon, or anyone who does CPR."

· First U.S. Showing of the Bluetooth® Wireless Option for the ZOLL M Series™
ZOLL now provides the only commercially available defibrillator capable of wireless, real-time digital transmission of 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) and vital signs information. With this option, ZOLL is the first to integrate Bluetooth wireless technology into a line of defibrillators for professional rescuers. The Bluetooth wireless option accelerates the transfer of vital patient data, which helps physicians make faster
life-saving decisions and improve triage when patients arrive at the hospital.

ZOLL also will demonstrate the following products:

· RescueNet™
RescueNet is a suite of software products sold by the company’s ZOLL Data Systems subsidiary (formerly Pinpoint Technologies). It is the only solution that provides EMS customers with a single data management system that integrates dispatch, resuscitation information from ZOLL’s line of defibrillators, field data collection, billing, and clinical quality assurance functions. Pinpoint Technologies’ products have been renamed to
reflect the RescueNet brand.

· ZOLL AED Plus™ Automated External Defibrillator
Now with a newly available interface designed for professional rescuers and first responders, the AED Plus takes rescuers through the entire resuscitation process as defined by the American Heart Association (AHA) and the European Resuscitation Council (ERC).

“Every day, EMS personnel are on the front lines battling cardiac arrest, and ZOLL is committed to outfitting them with products that help save more lives and manage information more effectively,” said Richard A. Packer, President and Chief Executive Officer of ZOLL. “By designing products that improve resuscitation efforts and enhance the management of resuscitation information, ZOLL helps both professional rescuers and their victims.”

Below is an overview of ZOLL’s products on display at the 2004 EMS Today Conference and Exposition.

AutoPulse™ Resuscitation System
The AutoPulse Resuscitation System, manufactured by ZOLL’s strategic partner Revivant Corporation, has been called the single most important development in the treatment of sudden cardiac arrest in the past 30 years. The AutoPulse helps rescuers provide circulatory support through non-invasive cardiac assistance. The device is a battery-operated electromechanical platform with a load-distributing band that fastens across a victim’s chest. It automatically provides consistent and optimal chest compressions that result in circulation at the scene, and during extrication and transport. The AutoPulse has been shown in a pre-clinical human study to compress the entire chest, generating much more blood pressure than normal chest compressions.

The AutoPulse relieves rescuers of the arduous task of performing manual chest compressions, thus freeing them to focus on other interventions. When compared to conventional CPR in animal studies, the AutoPulse provided normal blood flow to the heart and brain, and increased return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) and survival. A Stanford University study demonstrated 73% neurologically intact survival after eight minutes of ventricular fibrillation.

Bluetooth® Wireless Option for M Series™
The Bluetooth wireless option allows EMS personnel to digitally transmit 12-lead ECG and vital trend data automatically. With this option, the M Series is the only defibrillator—commercially available today—that can send patient data wirelessly to a Bluetooth-enabled Pocket PC or a Windows®-based laptop. The data is then sent via a data-enabled cellular phone to multiple locations. Vital signs are automatically transmitted every minute so physicians have a complete record of a patient’s vital signs prior to arrival at the hospital.

The Bluetooth wireless option provides faster transmission rates and increases reliability, when compared to analog communications technologies, by reducing the time needed to send patient information from the field. The 12-lead ECG and vital trend data are delivered in a matter of seconds, not minutes. The result is lower airtime charges as compared to traditional transmission methods. The Bluetooth wireless option works with a variety of existing Bluetooth-enabled Pocket PCs and cell phones. This variety allows customers to select the most appropriate device for their service today, while ensuring they can adapt to future changes in cellular technology.

RescueNet
RescueNet is an integrated data management system that centralizes information and helps EMS organizations improve quality of service, patient care, operational efficiency, and agency compliance. Only ZOLL and ZOLL Data Systems offer a complete information management solution that is available and deployed in hundreds of EMS organizations today. RescueNet consists of the following software modules, all of which were previously delivered under the Pinpoint Technologies brand:

· RescueNet Field Data (formerly EMS Pro and PocketPCR)—a system that enables crews to easily and completely document incidents, allowing same-day billing and decreasing paperwork. RescueNet Field Data automates electronic reporting to government agencies; reduces exposure to liability with a complete, legible, and accurate patient card; and improves the confidentiality of patient data. RescueNet Field Data offers customers two product choices—one for the Pocket PC and another that supports tablets, laptops, and PC workstations.

· RescueNet Code Review (formerly ZOLL Data Control)—a system that allows for the collection of resuscitation data from the ZOLL M Series, the ZOLL AED Plus, and RescueNet Field Data. Archived information can also be reviewed and appropriate reports generated.

· RescueNet Dispatch (formerly RightCAD)—a system that streamlines call-taking and dispatching while capturing important patient history, which can be used in future calls. The product set also offers a Web viewer (formerly RightCAD.com) and a Web scheduler (formerly nettransit.com) as optional licensed modules.

· RescueNet Mobile (formerly Nomad)—an onboard electronic data-communication system that enables dispatch centers and crews to communicate immediately and precisely. RescueNet Mobile allows teams to improve customer service, response times, and data integrity. It also allows for call and patient information to be transferred to RescueNet Field Data.

· RescueNet Billing (formerly Sanitas)—a system that automates the billing process and reduces claims errors, improving payment turnaround times. When installed with RescueNet Field Data, customers can achieve same-day billing. RescueNet Billing can be seamlessly integrated with RescueNet Dispatch so that collected information is immediately available to billing clerks, eliminating time-consuming, error-prone, and duplicate data entry.

ZOLL AED Plus with a New Professional Rescuer Interface
The AED Plus is now available with a new professional interface that includes minimal front-panel graphics. Yet, it still provides all of the necessary feedback for successful resuscitation. It is the only AED that helps professional rescuers support the full Chain of Survival and achieves the recommended depth and rate of chest compressions during CPR. While other AEDs concentrate on the delivery of the “shock,” the ZOLL AED Plus takes rescuers through the entire resuscitation process. By creating a device that focuses on every step, ZOLL differentiates its AED from other products because the AED Plus can help rescuers with all collapsed victims, including those who only benefit from CPR.

The AED Plus has a unique one-piece pre-connected electrode, known as the
CPR-D-padz™, which has an unmatched four-year shelf life, twice that of other pads on the market. The CPR-D-padz includes a hand-placement locator and accurately measures CPR compressions, allowing for feedback on proper rate and depth. Audio feedback tells a rescuer, “Press Harder” or “Good Compressions.”

The ZOLL AED Plus is the only AED to use cost-effective, consumer lithium batteries that are easily replaceable and can last as long as five years. It is immediately recognized by its distinct safety-green color, chosen for its ability to be easily seen by rescue personnel.
