FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ZOLL DISPLAYS ADVANCED RESUSCITATION PRODUCTS AT EMS EXPO 2004
Wednesday, October 20, 2004 – ATLANTA—ZOLL Medical Corporation (NASDAQ: ZOLL), a manufacturer of resuscitation devices and software solutions, will display advanced resuscitation products at Booth #1001 at EMS EXPO 2004, a leading tradeshow for emergency medical personnel, from October 21-24, 2004 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.
“For more than a decade, ZOLL’s products have helped EMS personnel treat patients,” said Richard A. Packer, President and Chief Executive Officer of ZOLL. “Our focus has always been to improve resuscitation outcomes by developing products that deliver superior clinical performance, rapid therapy, meaningful information, high user confidence, and economic value. ZOLL is committed to providing EMS personnel with the resuscitation tools they need to provide optimal care and help improve survival from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA).”
ZOLL to Award EMS EXPO Scholarships for the First Time
To show ZOLL’s appreciation to the EMS community, show attendees can enter a drawing to win one of three $1,000 scholarships for EMS EXPO 2005. ZOLL will reimburse scholarship winners for expenses associated with their attendance and travel to EMS EXPO 2005, scheduled for August 25-27 in New Orleans.
Following is an overview of the products ZOLL is displaying at EMS EXPO 2004.
The AutoPulse™ Non-invasive Cardiac Support Pump is an FDA-approved device that offers the potential of restoring near-normal blood flow levels in SCA victims. Many clinicians who have used the AutoPulse call it the single most important development in the treatment of SCA in the past 30 years. The automated, portable AutoPulse is a battery-operated electromechanical platform with a disposable band that fastens across a victim’s chest. The AutoPulse compresses the entire chest in a consistent, optimal “hands-free” manner, moving much more blood than manual chest compressions. Additionally, it offers the benefit of freeing up rescuers to focus on other life-saving interventions. In its first year of commercial availability, more than 90 customers have purchased the AutoPulse and have been actively using it as part of their resuscitation protocol.
The effectiveness of the AutoPulse has been shown in research studies published in peer-reviewed journals:
· In Circulation, an animal hemodynamics study conducted by Halperin et al. at Johns Hopkins University demonstrated that the AutoPulse generated pre-arrest levels of blood flow to the heart and brain.
· In Prehospital Emergency Care, a human hemodynamics study completed by Timmerman et al. showed that the AutoPulse generated 33% greater coronary perfusion pressure (CPP) than manual CPR conducted by medical residents. The American Heart Association has called CPP an important measurement of blood flow to the heart.
· In Circulation, an animal survival study conducted at Stanford University by Ikeno et al. resulted in 73% of subjects supported with the AutoPulse returning to normal blood flow and surviving, with 88% of the survivors determined to be neurologically normal. None of the subjects supported with conventional CPR survived.
M Series Now with Both Mainstream and Sidestream EtCO2 Monitoring
ZOLL is the first company to have plug-and-play mainstream and sidestream EtCO2 monitoring option for its best-selling device, the ZOLL M Series™ defibrillator. With a lifetime limited warranty on its solid-state sensor design, the ZOLL M Series with Respironics Novametrix EtCO2 monitoring is designed for maximum ease-of-use in pre-hospital settings. Users can easily select the optimum CO2 monitoring method depending upon the patient’s condition. They can switch between mainstream and sidestream options since one operating mode covers any intubated and non-intubated patient (neonatal to adult).
The M Series defibrillator has been selected as the standard of care in leading EMS and healthcare facilities around the world. The M Series combines the clinical superiority of ZOLL’s Rectilinear Biphasic™ waveform with portability, ease-of-use, and a vivid screen display. In addition, M Series defibrillators use ZOLL’s patented pacing technology, which has been clinically shown to offer superior capture rates, provide lower mean capture thresholds, and allow better patient tolerance to external pacing. In addition to EtCO2 monitoring, the M Series platform allows customers to choose a range of configurations that include multiple monitoring parameters (pulse oximetry, 12-lead ECG interpretation and communication, and non-invasive blood pressure measurement), as well as user interface options (AED, Manual or Advisory).
ZOLL will also be showing the M Series CCT, which is designed specifically for critical care transport needs and is certified airworthy for military applications.
New EMS Data Solutions
ZOLL Data Systems, a subsidiary of ZOLL Medical Corporation, will feature the following new products, which are part of the RescueNet™ suite of data management solutions. RescueNet provides EMS organizations with a data management system, using single-database technology, that integrates critical information—dispatch data, resuscitation information from ZOLL’s line of defibrillators, field data, billing information, and clinical quality assurance data—to help maximize performance.
· DispatchPRO, RescueNet Dispatch’s New Package of CAD Options
DispatchPRO lets EMS organizations manage their resources more efficiently, allowing dispatchers to deploy vehicles based on historical call data or population center information. Other options include Demand Control, which can help prevent conflicts with the under- and over-booking of routine calls. And with Crew Scheduler and Deployment Planner, users have full web-enabled functionality to effectively manage user-specific scheduling patterns, and ensure appropriate staffing and resource levels to meet fluctuating demands.
· RescueNet TabletPCR
RescueNet TabletPCR™ is the first field data solution that combines proven, reliable technology with the most advanced user interface available today. RescueNet TabletPCR’s user interface brings the latest ideas and technology in usability to the electronic field data experience.
ZOLL AED Plus Automated External Defibrillator
The ZOLL AED Plus™, now available with either a professional interface or complete front-panel graphics, is the only Full-Rescue AED that helps professional rescuers support the full Chain of Survival. It is also the only AED that helps rescuers achieve the recommended rate and depth of chest compressions during CPR. A proprietary real-time feedback mechanism makes the AED Plus the only AED that helps assess and treat nearly every SCA victim, even those victims for whom no shock is required. The AED Plus has a unique
one-piece pre-connected electrode, known as the CPR-D•padz™, which has an unmatched four-year shelf life, twice that of any other electrode on the market. The CPR-D•padz includes a hand-placement locator, which accurately measures chest compressions during CPR. The AED Plus converts the compression data from the CPR-D•padz and provides audio feedback that tells a rescuer, “Push harder” or “Good compressions,” as needed. The AED Plus is the only AED to use cost-effective, consumer lithium batteries that are easily replaceable and can last as long as five years in stand-by mode.
