Medical attention must be administered as soon as possible after
the victim collapses; the chances for survival decrease 10%
with every minute you wait. The average SCA victim is middle-aged
or elderly, although some victims are in their 30s or 40s. More
than 70 percent of SCAs occur in the home, which is why home
AEDs have the potential to save the lives of countless loved
ones struck by cardiac arrest.

A defibrillator is used to restore a normal rhythm to the heart
by delivering an electrical shock. An automated external defibrillator
(AED) is a device that can be used in the home by non-medical
personnel to administer the same much-needed treatment to victims
of sudden cardiac arrest. The AED is able to determine whether
an irregular heartbeat is present, and will only administer
a shock if defibrillation is necessary. This makes it hard to
use an AED incorrectly, and, therefore, easier for the average
household member to use during the confusion of a life-threatening
situation.

Many medical professional organizations are supporters of early
defibrillation, including the American Red Cross, the American
Heart Association, the American College of Emergency Physicians,
and the National Association of EMS Physicians. The importance
of early defibrillation has seen the installation of defibrillators
in many public places, such as airports, health clubs, sports
venues, and in the workplace.

The AED Plus is the first and only Full-Rescue AED. Unlike most
AEDs, which simply administer shocks, the ZOLL AED Plus Defibrillator
is the world's first AED that:
- Supports the complete chain of survival
(from “Check Responsiveness” through chest compressions.)
Supports
CPR with instantaneous feedback for rate and depth of chest
compressions.
- Helps rescuer with all sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) victims.
(even those for which no shock is advised)
- A one-piece pad simplifies positioning, eliminates delays,
and makes it virtually impossible for incorrect placement
to occur.
- Powered by lithium camera batteries available from retail
stores
(that last 5 years)
In the frenzied confusion of an emergency situation, the
ZOLL AED Plus Defibrillator makes you comfortable and gives
you the confidence to successfully complete every aspect of
an SCA rescue.
